| Overview

The SmartNode can now be wired to an external Modbus client/ BMS/ or the CCU for communication and control, and act as a server to the client in a Modbus-based BMS or an external BMS.

Customers can now leverage the power of SmartNode combined with a local interface sensor, which could be a wall sensor or a multi-sensor to sense different parameters and actuating equipment at the terminal level.

The above capability is provisioned with the introduction of communication options in the SmartNode , and when that configuration is changed in the SmartNode via the communication options, the SmartNode will be able to start communication with the external Modbus client/ BMS/ or the CCU respond to its user intents and sequences.

| Wiring

The wiring that is used to connect a Modbus client/ BMS/ or the CCU to a SmartNode is called the RS485 system & the RS485 Daisy chain Adapter.

The RS485 connector uses a three-wire protocol as shown below:

The RS485 Daisy chain Adapter looks like this, as shown below:

Using the above wire combination the wiring of SmartNode to external Modbus client/ BMS/ or the CCU is achieved.

For more information on how to wire SmartNode in such wired environments, refer Wired SmartNode.

For other factors to be considered while wiring an RS485 cable into a Modbus client kindly refer to ModBus/BACnet Wiring and General Guidelines
