Overview

The CCU XR supports integration with RS485-based protocols such as Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP through its USB-A port. To enable this functionality, a USB-to-RS485 converter is required.

ClimaVision offers a supported adapter (7C-ND-C1W-X), to simplify deployment and ensure compatibility for customers integrating third-party RS485 devices.

Use Cases

This adapter enables the CCU XR to communicate with external RS485 devices, including:

  • Modbus RTU devices (e.g., energy meters, power monitors)
  • BACnet MS/TP devices (e.g., third-party controllers, RTUs)

System Architecture

  • The converter plugs into the USB-A port on the CCU XR
  • RS485 wiring connects from the adapter to the field bus
  • Communication is configured within the CCU XR for the selected protocol

Multi-Protocol Support

The CCU XR can support multiple RS485 networks simultaneously with the use of USB hubs.

Key Capabilities

  • Supports up to two USB hubs
  • Supports multiple USB-to-RS485 adapters
  • Allows communication with multiple protocols at the same time
    • Example:
      • Modbus RTU on one RS485 network
      • BACnet MS/TP on another RS485 network

Device Limitations

Total Device Count

  • Recommended maximum: ≤ 40 total devices per CCU XR

Important:
The total device count includes all connected devices, not just third-party devices:

  • ClimaVision devices
  • Modbus devices
  • BACnet MS/TP devices

Formula:
Total Devices =
ClimaVision Devices + Modbus Devices + BACnet Devices ≤ 40 (recommended)

Summary

The USB-to-RS485 adapter enables flexible integration of RS485-based devices with the CCU XR. By supporting multiple adapters via USB hubs, the CCU XR can communicate with both Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP devices simultaneously.

However, system design must account for total device limits and network performance to ensure reliable operation.
