| Overview
Intrinsic schedule is a schedule which is introduced in the Algorithmic level, and not a configurable option, which shortens the actual building schedule, based on the statuses of the individual zones, using any system level device (AHU's & RTU's).
| How it Works
When there is a CCU (using a system level profile VAV/VVT-C), which is used to control a building level equipment in the building. And if the system level profile supplies air to one or more zones (using module level equipment/ profiles VVT-C/VAV/TI, Dual duct and BPOS).
If the CCU follows a building schedule, and module level equipment follows a zone level schedule (which is different from the actual building schedule).
The algorithm uses the statuses of the individual zones, based on the the zone schedule, and modify the schedule of the CCU/AHU. The resultant schedule is called an intrinsic schedule, which is usually shorter than the building schedule, which reduces the load on the AHU, thus leading to energy savings.
| Prerequisites
For a building to use the concept of intrinsic schedule over the algorithm the following perquisites will need to be met.
- The CCU must follow a particular building schedule
- All the zones using the AHU for their conditioning must follow a zone schedule.
- All the individual zone schedules must be with in the building schedule.
- Only zones following the VAV, VVT-C, TI, Dual duct and BPOS profiles, would be considered for a Intrinsic schedule.
| Exclusions:
The following profiles under the various devices will not have the effect of the intrinsic schedule, and thus the same is not available for visualization under them.
- PI
- SSE
- EMR
- CPU
- SENSE
- VRV
- CPU
- HPU
- PIPE2
- PIPE4
Following are some examples to explain the feature:
Examples and Illustrations:
Example | Actual Building Schedule |
Zone1 Schedule (VAV) |
Zone2 Schedule (VAV) |
Zone3 Schedule (VAV) |
Resultant Intrinsic schedule |
1 | 8 AM to 8 PM |
10 AM to 5 PM |
12 PM to 5 PM |
10 AM to 12 PM & 3 PM to 6 PM |
10 AM-6 PM (During which the AHU operates) not from 8 AM to 8PM. The schedule is not effected by the SSE / PI paired zone status. |
Example | Actual Building Schedule |
Zone1 Schedule (VVT-C) |
Zone2 Schedule (VVT-C) |
Zone3 Schedule (VVT-C) |
Resultant Intrinsic schedule |
2 | 8 AM to 8 PM |
9 AM to 11 AM & 3 PM to 4 PM |
10 AM to 11 AM & 4 PM to 5 PM |
10 AM to 12 & 3 PM to 6 PM |
9 AM-12 PM & 3 PM to 6 PM (During which the AHU operates) not from 8 AM to 8PM. The schedule is not effected by the SSE / PI paired zone status. |
Example | Actual Building Schedule |
Zone1 Schedule (VAV) |
Zone2 Schedule (VAV) |
Zone3 Schedule (SSE/ PI) |
Resultant Intrinsic schedule |
3 | 8 AM to 8 PM | 10 AM to 1 PM | 3 PM to 5 PM |
10 AM to 12 & 3 PM to 6 PM |
No intrinsic schedule is resulted, the system operates for the building schedule itself. |
| Modes of Occupancy & Hierarchy
Based on how the building is used and the associated HVAC needs the system defines implements the a number of modes, and the same is used in the algorithm to control the AHU's status.
Following is hierarchy, the modes of occupancy follows:
- Unoccupied- When the building is unoccupied (usually out of schedule hours)
- Autoaway- When no occupancy is detected during the schedule hours
- Emergency Conditioning- When the conditions in a building breaches the set upper and lower temperature limits.
- Auto Forced Occupied - When occupancy is detected during the non schedule hours.
- Forced Occupied -When occupancy is detected and demanding conditioning during the non schedule hours
- Preconditioning - When the system is about to enter the schedule hours, and trying to get to the set desired temperature limit. (a.k.a. optimal start)
- Occupied- When the building is occupied during the schedule hours.

| Visualizing the Intrinsic Schedules in the Portals
To visualize the intrinsic schedule in the Internal portal or ClimaVision Web UI.
- Log into the Internal portal or ClimaVision Web UI
- Select the site in scope.
- Click the CCU or the System level profile in scope.
The system level visualization screen is displayed.
And under the section CCU settings the Intrinsic schedule for the system profile is displayed, with the colored references for different schedule types and vacation as below.
Color | Schedules/Vacation |
Yellow | Building Schedule |
White | Zone Schedule |
Grey | Intrinsic Schedule |
Green | Vacation |
- Click on the Intrinsic schedule for a day to visualize the zones under the system profile and their respective zones schedules.
- Hover over the individual zone schedules and the intrinsic schedule for the details.
Since the Zone2 and Zone 3 of the system profile were scheduled at 8:00 am to 13:00 pm, 13:45 pm to 15:15 pm and 15:30 pm to 17:30 pm for Monday.
The resultant intrinsic schedule for building or the system is 8:00 am to 13:00 pm, 13:45 pm to 15:15 pm and15:30 pm to 17:30 pm, which is usually a reduced schedule than the preset actual Building Schedule which results in Energy Savings.
The changes can also be viewed in the required schedule by changing the unit conversion from Fahrenheit to Celsius in the user management section.
| Visualizing the Intrinsic Schedules in Mobile App
From the ClimaVision Web UI mobile app heatmap page
- Click the CCU to view the schedule applicable.
You can see the schedule the CCU follows which is an intrinsic schedule.
| Visualizing the Intrinsic Schedules in CCU
From the CCU zones page.
- Click on the system to visualize the applicable schedule.
To view the schedule temperatures in Celsius, the user can navigate to the user management page and change unit settings under the Facility Manager settings and save the edited settings.
The intrinsic schedule can be now viewed as a Celsius parameter.
