The SmartNode is a highly versatile input/output (IO) controller. Many applications can be set up out of the box with minimal configuration options. The SmartNode can also be used for more custom sequences that are outside its typical terminal application profiles.

| PRECAUTIONS

  • Do not install devices in direct sunlight.
  • Do not install devices on an exterior wall.
  • Do not install devices near heat-producing equipment.
  • Disconnect power before installing. Never connect or disconnect wiring with power applied.
  • Do not run the Wall Sensor harness next to the line voltage.
  • Install by all state and local codes.
  • Do not mount the SmartNode directly on the bottom of the ductwork. This can cause a potential trip hazard to the electronics in the case of any condensation buildup.
  • Mount the SmartNode between the angle encompassed by the 8 and 4 O'clock of the ductwork.

Mounting the SmartNode

To Mount the Carrier SmartNode, first, identify the primary damper in the zone. If there is only one damper, that is the primary damper. If there are two, pick the most accessible damper as you will need access to the SmartNode. Using the provided hex key bolts, fix the SmartNode to the damper side bracket cage nuts until snug.

Installing a Wall Sensor

To install the Wall Sensor, drill a 1-inch hole saw. Determine where to ideally install the Wall Sensor. Also ensure the sensor will not be installed behind any objects such as picture frames, shelving units, equipment, etc.  When these conditions are met, drill a 1-inch hole at the desired location which is 5 feet off the ground. The desired location for drilling the point hole should be not lower than 4 feet 6 inches and not higher than 5 feet 6 inches if possible.

**For accurate performance ensure:

  • There are no heat-producing devices near the sensors
  • That the installation is not done on the exterior wall
  • That the sensor is not exposed to strong drafts or direct sunlight

| WIRING

The SmartNode is an IO controller that is capable of controlling many unique applications. You will know what terminal profile you should be using based on the equipment you have. For wiring and specific terminal profile configuration please choose the link below.

SmartNode Terminal Applications

Damper

The actuator dongle will have four cables, which are labeled as 1, 2, 3, and 5. Cable 1 is used for ground. Cable 2 is used for power. Cable 3 is used for signal. Cable 4 is used for feedback.

Wall Sensor

Both ends of the remote temperature sensor (RTS) cable are the same male connectors. Run one of the ends down the wall and feed through the 1-inch  hole drilled previously. Plug into the Wall Sensor. Plug the other end into the port labeled "RTS" on the SmartNode.

Powering the SmartNode

To power, the SmartNode runs your 18/2AWG bus line to the Power IN on the SmartNode. All devices with a shared transformer must be the same polarity. If you have another SmartNode that needs to be powered, daisy chains them from Power OUT to the next Power IN. Secure your cables so there is no excessive strain on any connections.

| SmartNode PAIRING

Pair the SmartNode with a zone that has been preconfigured or create and configure a zone yourself through Setup > Floor Plan on the CCU.

Once power is supplied to the system and all SmartNodes display the default room.

  1. Disconnect the tablet from the CM and carry it with you. The pairing will be performed using Bluetooth.
  2. On the Wall Sensor push the small “Pair” button for 4 to 8 seconds. This puts the SmartNode into advertising mode. Alternatively, you can press the right button on the SmartNode until you reach advertising mode.

  3. On the tablet choose the zone you wish to pair and press “Pair Module.” The pairing process will start. If no zones are displayed you will need to add all floors and rooms before pairing. Choose the type of profile the SmartNode will be.

  8. Pairing process will take a few more seconds and then complete displaying Success on the screen. After a few more seconds the SmartNode will display the new zone name. The tablet will not display any zone data until it is reconnected to the CM where it will communicate over a 900 Mhz channel.

| Troubleshooting - Pairing

Pairing Bluetooth devices comes with its own set of nuances that can cause the device to not pair successfully. But don't worry, this isn't uncommon and is almost always an easy hurdle with a couple simple steps.

If you're having trouble pairing your device with your CCU and are getting to a place where the device is displaying a MAC address or PIN but it is not being displayed on the CCU, try the steps below one at a time.

  1. Tap away from the pairing screens on the CCU and retry the pairing.
  2. Toggle the Bluetooth adapter Off and back On. Swipe down from the upper right and press the Bluetooth icon and wait for it to turn gray. Then tap it again and wait for it to turn white.
  3. Power cycle, or press the reset button on the device itself.
  4. Reboot your CCU.
